Characteristics

Hickory is known as one of the hardest, heaviest, and strongest American wood species. Hickory ranges dramatically in color from nearly white to dark brown and deepens with age. Rustic hickory is known for it’s dramatic color variations and it’s prominent grain. Bird pecks, small pin knots, and mineral streaks are common in hickory.

Availability

Hickory is a readily available and popular wood choice because of its strength and flexibility. Although it can be a little more tricky to work with the results are often well-worth it.

Style

Hickory is often used in traditional, transitional, and more rustic/natural styles.

Finishes

Because Hickory has a course, straight grain, it can be stained with beautiful results.
